Liechtenstein structures

Effective tools for organising your assets

INTRODUCTION

Effective tools for structuring your assets

The establishment and administration of structures have been at the heart of our business for decades. Each structure must be carefully chosen and set up to ensure it fulfils its intended purpose. Working alongside solicitors, wealth managers, investment managers and your advisers, we carry out this work for families around the world as well as for international companies.

As a firm with a long-standing tradition, we offer the full range of structures, including trusts, foundations, private trust companies and holding companies. Our office is based in Liechtenstein, from where we establish and manage legal entities from other jurisdictions as well. Once the foundation has been laid, we manage it with the utmost care and ensure that it is sustainable and secure for generations to come.

TYPICAL SITUATIONS

In which situations are Liechtenstein-based asset structures used

Entrepreneurial families with international holdings

Long-term consolidation and management of shareholdings across generations.

Assets held with several banks and financial institutions

Consolidation and governance via a centralised structure, regardless of the location of the assets.

Succession planning across generations

Clear rules on who receives what and when – with mechanisms for conflict prevention and long-term stability.

Separation of business operations and private assets

Protection of private assets against business risks through structural safeguards.

Philanthropic and charitable causes

The long-term pursuit of social, cultural or charitable objectives through appropriate asset structures.

Optimising existing structures

Review and further development of existing holding company or family structures to meet current requirements.

Use structures to better protect your assets. Or utilise them to invest more effectively or to secure a long-term future for a philanthropic cause. The areas of application for these asset structures are diverse. Our trust services also assist with business or wealth succession.

However, every structure must be chosen and set up with care. Only then can it fulfil the intended purpose for high-net-worth individuals and their families. In doing so, we do not limit ourselves to Liechtenstein or Switzerland. Our experts can also set up structures for you in other jurisdictions and manage them on your behalf. In addition to high-net-worth individuals and their families, international companies and asset managers also place their trust in our trust services.

INSTRUMENTS

Which type of company is best suited to your circumstances?

Foundation

The Liechtenstein Foundation is a legally independent entity with no shareholders. It is particularly well-suited to the long-term, stable preservation of assets across generations – with clear governance and legal continuity, regardless of changes within the family.

Trust Enterprise (registered)

The Liechtenstein Trust Enterprise offers a wide range of options for structuring assets and shareholdings. It is particularly well-suited to family and succession planning, the long-term management of assets, the consolidation of companies and shareholdings, as well as for charitable, philanthropic or other individual objectives.

Establishment

The Liechtenstein Establishment is a distinct legal form and, depending on its structure, is comparable to a foundation or a public limited company. It is particularly suitable for families and entrepreneurs seeking greater flexibility in structuring their assets or shareholdings.

Trust

A trust offers greater flexibility in structuring beneficiaries’ rights and decision-making arrangements. It is suitable for situations where the differing needs of various generations or family members need to be taken into account.

Company Limited By Shares (AG)

The Liechtenstein Company Limited By Shares (AG) is a traditional corporate entity with shareholders having limited liability. It is suitable for operational holding structures, the consolidation of shareholdings, and for situations where a clear corporate structure with transferable shares is required.

THE ADVENTAGES OF LIECHTENSTEIN AS A BUSINESS LOCATION

Why Kaiser Partner

Liechtenstein has one of the oldest and most stable sets of company laws in Europe. The Law on Persons and Companies (PGR) of 1926 forms the basis for structures that offer long-term reliability – whether a foundation, trust, public limited company or Anstalt – regardless of political developments in other countries.

Kaiser Partner Wealth Advisors has specialised in the structuring of cross-border assets for decades. Its headquarters in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, is no coincidence, but rather a structural advantage.
